Disney's Yacht Club Resort

Description: Built to resemble the Shingle-Style architecture reminiscent of New England seaside Summer cottages of the 1880's, situated on the shores of the 25-acre Crescent Lake.

Points of Interest:

Building & Architecutual Theming: 5-story building with hardwood floors, rich millwork, and brass in a nautical motif. Gray clapboards made of Werzalite, a synthetic material of glued sawdust that is impervious to Orlando's humidity. Most of the hotel's glistening white cornices, columns, railings, and trim are constructed of fiberglass, but some wood trim surrounds doors and windows.

Beach: The white beach in front of both the Yacht & Beach Club Resorts consists of fine sand imported from the "White Sands" of New Mexico.

Stormalong Bay: An approximate 3-acre-mini-water park reminiscent of a Nantucket Beach, belonging to both the Yach & Beach Club Resorts.

*Contains 75,000 gallons of water consisting of three related bodies of water shared by a common filtration and water treatement system:
*Active Lagoon: 13,300 sq. ft. and 500,000 gallons
*Snorkel Lagoon: 6,500 sq. ft. and 200,000 gallons
*Quiet Lagoon: 2,000 sq. ft. and 50,000 gallons
*The large grain sand at the bottom of the lagoon is imported from Arizona and is an integral part of the pool's cleansing system.

Shipwreck: According to legend, a sailor named Stormalong ran his ship aground after being caught in a fierce storm. His vessel crashed into the shoreline, creating the pools and waterways of what is now Stormalong Bay. Today, the remains of the great vessel contain a water slide encompassed by the ship's mast which extends 150 feet into the air.

*Water Slide: Length of the water slide is 230 ft. with 110 ft. enclosed in tubing.

Rooms: 630 guest rooms

Convention Center: 73,000-square-feet of meeting space is located in the Yacht & Beach Club Convention Center, including a 36,000-square-foot ballroom that can seat up to 2,800 for dinner. Motifs are federal, i.e. stars and stripes, Americana. Design complements that of the Yacht Club which is connected to the convention center by a covered walkway. The interior of the facility is reminiscent of a grand turn-of-the-century New England Town Meeting Hall.
